| What is a Compact Flash Card? |
CompactFlash is
a small, lightweight memory-device card that has low-power requirements
and a non-volatile memory (retains data when power is removed).
It lends itself to many applications in digital electronics
and was designed around the PCMCIA standard used in notebook/laptop
computers. Weighing only about half an ounce and being as small
as a book of matches, this card is well suited for many applications
in the digital world. Currently, they are widely used in digital
cameras, MP3 music players, handheld PCs (HPCs), some desktop
computers, Palm PCs, digital voice recorders, photo printers
and personal communicators. Numerous platforms and operation
systems support CompactFlash including DOS, Windows 3.x, Windows
95, Windows 98, Windows CE, Windows 2000, Windows ME, Windows
XP, OS/2, Apple System 7, 8, 9 & OS X, Linux and most types
of UNIX.
